typography group experiment

For our experiment we were given a wood board on which we wrote 'covert and obscure' using a letter stencil. We then took nails and pins and placed them around the letters like below.

Then on some of the letters we started to wrap different colour threads round the pins and nails, we made different patterns using the pins to make different lines. The more times you wrapped the it round the thicker the line you got and therefor the bolder the letter.

As some of the colour of thread we used was not bright enough to show the letter we decided we would paint onto the board underneath the thread to form a background of the letter, this then made the thread an outline and was easier to see.

Once we had finished creating all the other letters using fabrics, thread and paint we decided as a group that the background of the board surrounding the letter was too dull and therefore we chose to decorate it. We used different coloured acrylic paint to make the background bright and colourful, we used paintbrushes to make dots with the paint and then used water to smudge the colours altogether.
