jonathan tran in-depth analysis

Context
These pieces of work were created by Jonathan Tran, born in Gibraltar, he came to Britain at the age of 3. He studied a foundation course in illustration at Central St.Martins, followed by 3 years at Kent institute of Art and Design.
He now spends most of his time making images where his inspiration comes from other contemporary artists from all fields not just illustrations. The pieces look like they have been spray painted from stencils. I chose to analyse this artist because in my final piece i am going to include stenciling and spray painting.

Meaning
I looked at the artists website which had pictures of his work but no information about him, so i had to look at a biography that was made about him and get my information from there. I would associate this artist as a spray paint artists. His pieces seem to include the human figure and the scene they're in is presented in a different colour to the figure, this helps it to stand out from the rest of the piece. I think these pieces could represent the way people live and what their daily activities include.

Aesthetics
These pieces were made from spray paints and stencils, you can tell this by there is bits missing from the human figure, the bits that have been cut out are the bits that have been spray painted. The artist uses colour to make it easier to identify what parts belong to which piece of the work. He uses colour to show the emotion featurted in the piece, the reds and oranges are used to show anger or hurt. I think the artist has drawn out the piece first and then used a knife to cut the relevant piece out to create the stencil which was then spray painted. I think the piece were done on either an A3 or A2 size.

Personal Response
I chose to look at this artist because it is relevant to my final piece as i am also spray painting a stencil although my stencil will be solid and have no gaps. When i first saw these pieces i could instantly recognise that they were made from spray paint and stencils, the artist blends colour in some areas of the pieces that is really eye-catching. The artist hasnt caused and leaks or drips during his spray paint his lines and gaps are perfect and i would like mine to be the same.
